Overview

Chesapeake Bartenders and Events is a luxury bar and light bites catering company serving weddings, private celebrations and corporate events across the Mid Atlantic. Since 2019 we have built our reputation on a standard of service that our clients and their planners request by name.

This position leads our weekday corporate events. Our corporate clients include law firms, financial firms, brand activations and company celebrations in Washington DC, Baltimore, Annapolis and throughout the Eastern Shore.

A substantial share of weekday corporate work involves no alcohol service. Depending on the engagement, the position may deliver full bar service, mocktail and smoothie service, non alcoholic beverage stations, coffee and espresso service, or charcuterie, antipasto, fruit, pastry and light bites displays. Some events include all of the above. Others consist of coffee service and a charcuterie display for a morning meeting.

Chesapeake Bartenders and Events is not a staffing agency. We supply our own equipment, our own setups and our own standards, and this position is responsible for carrying them.

Duties

  • Loads equipment, supplies and inventory at the Stevensville office and transports them to the event site.
  • Completes supply and ice pickups en route as directed by the event overview.
  • Directs the setup, styling and presentation of the bar and service stations in accordance with company standards.
  • Mixes and serves cocktails, wine, beer, mocktails, smoothies and non alcoholic beverages, including custom signature preparations.
  • Prepares and presents coffee and espresso service where included in the engagement.
  • Assembles and styles charcuterie, antipasto, fruit, pastry and light bites displays.
  • Serves as the on site point of contact for the client and venue personnel.
  • Responds to guests with attentiveness and sensitivity regarding their requests, preferences and allergen concerns.
  • Maintains accountability for all inventory issued for the event, including product served and product returned.
  • Executes proper and timely setup, breakdown, cleanup and load out, and returns equipment and unused inventory to the office.
  • Reports service outcomes, equipment issues and any incidents to company leadership following the event.
  • Prolonged standing, walking and reaching is required. Frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must reside in Anne Arundel County or on the Eastern Shore, within reasonable distance of the Stevensville office, as all equipment and supplies are loaded there.
  • Must own and operate a reliable vehicle capable of transporting two six foot folding tables, coolers and bar equipment. Delivery is a required function of this position.
  • Must hold a valid driver license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a background check. Certain venues require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required.
  • Must be available during weekday business hours. A conflicting Monday through Friday position is not compatible with this role.
  • Must obtain TIPS Certification within two weeks of hire.
  • Must obtain ServSafe Food Handler Certification within two weeks of hire. The company pays for the course and the examination.
  • Must maintain access to a reliable computer and internet service and remain responsive to company email during business hours.
  • Must maintain professional appearance standards, including clean and pressed attire, restrained hairstyling and impeccable personal presentation.
  • Participation in direct deposit is required.

Qualifications

In order to meet the basic requirements of this position, you must meet all of the following:

  • Experience in bartending, catering, hospitality or food service.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, including coolers loaded with ice.
  • Comfort handling food, including platters, displays and light assembly on site.
  • Ability to communicate immediately and directly when circumstances change.

You will be rated on the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) for this position:

  • Knowledge of cocktail, wine, beer and non alcoholic beverage preparation, including the ability to execute custom and signature drink menus.
  • Skill in bar and display presentation, with an understanding that visual execution is held to the same standard as service itself.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to operate in a professional, service oriented manner with clients and venue personnel.
  • Experience explaining menu offerings, ingredients and pairings for guest satisfaction and for allergen concerns.
  • Ability to work independently on site and exercise sound judgment without direct supervision.
  • Experience maintaining sanitation and food handling standards.
  • Reliability and attention to detail, which we weigh more heavily than length of resume.
  • Prior experience as a barista, banquet coordinator or beverage station operator is a natural fit for the service pace of this role.

Additional Information

Work is performed in three settings. Events take place on site at client locations. Equipment and supplies are loaded and returned at the Stevensville office. Administrative work, including accepting assignments, corresponding with the operations team and reviewing event overviews, is performed remotely.

Events fall Monday through Friday and start times vary considerably. Some engagements are morning setups for lunch service and others are evening receptions. There is no fixed weekly pattern. The business is seasonal, and September through December are the heaviest months. Based on prior year execution, this position typically works one to three events per week.

Events are placed on the calendar in advance and staff accept the assignments that suit their availability. No employee is scheduled for an event they have not accepted.

Employees in this position are eligible to enroll in health, dental and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan with company match, and cell phone reimbursement of up to $25. Additional opportunities are available on weekends for weddings and private events.

Chesapeake Bartenders and Events is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status or other non merit factor. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to applicants with disabilities.
