Run the Alcohol Calculator first — you'll need your total beer count for the most accurate results.

Step 2 — Your Glassware Approach
Default: 2 glasses — covers cocktail hour and first reception drink. Beautiful for photos.

Why hybrid works: Guests get the elegance of glassware for the first part of the evening — perfect for photographs and video. Once the bar transitions to plasticware, inventory management becomes effortless. No dedicated bussing staff required, no broken glasses mid-service, no scramble to restock.

Important — glassware only requires dedicated bussing staff. At 7+ glasses per person across a 6-hour reception, a 100-guest wedding can generate nearly 700 dirty glasses. You need at least one dedicated staff member whose sole job is collecting, racking, and restocking clean glasses throughout the event. Without this, service slows down and guests run out of clean glassware.

Default: 7 (full 6-hour reception formula). Adjust if you plan to reuse or restock.

Sustainability note — one-glass strategy: If your couple wants every guest to reuse a single glass all evening, your bartending team will need a dump bucket and a small gray water rinse container at the bar. Guests bring their glass back, the bartender dumps the remnants, gives it a quick rinse, and refills. This works well for single-drink-type receptions (wine only, beer only). It gets complicated with mixed drinks, spirits, and color changes — a guest who started with red wine and now wants a vodka tonic needs a properly rinsed glass. Communicate this to your bartending team in advance.

Plasticware options: Shop Sam's Club and Amazon for the best deals — 9oz short cups and 9oz tall cups typically run between 5–10¢ each (prices fluctuate, check current deals). Tossware is a premium compostable plasticware option — beautiful, biodegradable, and required by some sustainability-focused venues. Check our Amazon links for current pricing.

Step 3 — Water Service
Hot weather and longer receptions drive significantly higher water consumption — guests frequently misplace cups and grab fresh ones
Step 4 — Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Note: These quantities are based on professional bar service standards used by Chesapeake Bartenders & Events across 500+ real weddings. Actual consumption varies by crowd, weather, and service style. The 4-cup CBE buffer is included to account for spills, misplaced cups, and unexpected service needs. Cups are inexpensive — it is always better to have more than you need than to run short mid-reception.
