The old fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar cubes with chocolate bitters and water, adding bourbon and garnishing with orange slice and a cocktail cherry. It is traditionally served in an old fashioned glass, which predated the cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz Bourbon or Rye whiskey
  • 1 Sugar Cube
  • 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
  • Few dashes Plain Water
  • Amarena Cherries
  • Orange Slices

Preparation:

1. Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass and saturate with bitters, add a dash of plain water.
2. Muddle (smush with a muddler or spoon until dissolved).
3. Fill the glass with ice cubes and add Jack Daniels Garnish with orange slice, and an Amarena cherry (we provided small packets containing 2 Amarena cherries).
See? Easy as 1-2-3!

Optional:

When muddling the chocolate bitters and sugar cubes, add orange slice and Amarena cherry together. Then, top with ice cubes and pour Jack Daniels over ice. Enjoy!

Love margaritas but looking to add a fun twist on a traditional margarita recipe? This pineapple cilantro marg is the perfect mix to please even the most discerning margarita connoisseurs. The more tart citrus (thanks to fresh orange and lime juice) compliments the sweetness of the pineapple juice, and the cilantro adds another layer of flavor that goes hand in hand with taco night. For those of you looking for a fun date night idea that includes staying in, make a pitcher of these delish pineapple cilantro margaritas, add a side of chips and guac and boom! Date night. Okay, maybe you want to have some tacos too? I know we would! The good news is that the cilantro is already chopped since you added it to your margarita batch.

Make a Pitcher of Pineapple Cilantro Margaritas:

  • Tequila (we used silver but use whatever kind you prefer)
  • Grand Marnier (we used 1 mini bottle)
  • Sour Mix (we prefer George’s margarita mix because it uses fresh lime juice and agave nectar)
  • 3 Limes
  • 1 Orange (or a clementine)
  • 1 small can of Dole’s pineapple juice (the individual size)
  • Small bunch of chopped cilantro

Step by Step Instructions to Make The Perfect Pitcher of Pineapple Cilantro Margaritas

  1. Fill 1/4 of pitcher with tequila
  2. Add 3/4 bottle of sour mix (standard bottle not a handle bottle)
  3. Add one small can of pineapple juice
  4. Squeeze one orange and add juice to pitcher. If you don’t have oranges, add 1/3 cup of orange juice
  5. Squeeze two limes and add juice to pitcher
  6. Add one mini bottle of Grand Marnier OR 2 oz Grand Marnier (you can substitute Triple Sec or any orange liquer)
  7. Add a 1/4 cup of freshly chopped cilantro.
  8. Stir
  9. Fill glass with ice. Salt rim if preferred.
  10. Pour margarita over ice.
  11. Sip. Enjoy. Repeat.

Follow These Simple Steps To Make Your Old Fashioned:

1. Mix boiling water & a heaping spoonful of sugar. Stir. Don’t have sugar? Maple syrup or agave nectar work well.

2. If you have an orange, peel + put a few slices in the bottom of your glass. If not, add 2 oz. orange juice. No OJ? Substitute fresh lemon. Take a spoon + smash the orange (or lemon) gently to squeeze the juice out. If you have cherries, add 2 & do the same. Don’t have cherries? Substitute any kind of berry. Cherries/berries are not necessary but if you have them, use them – they make this drink yummy.

3. Add 1 TBSP of the sugar water (aka simple syrup) you made to the muddled fruit. If you are subbing maple syrup or agave nectar, add this on top of fruit.

4. Stir and Add ice cubes.

5. Add 2 oz. whiskey/bourbon

6. If you have bitters, add a few drops. If you don’t, don’t worry. It will still be delicious.

7. Stir slightly.

8. Sip, relax and enjoy your homemade Old Fashioned!

People often have a love hate relationship with tequila.  As one of the stronger tastes in regards to other liquors like vodka or rum, a love for tequila often means the one consuming it has a strong palate or spent a lot of time in the Sonoran Desert. While not everyone loves to drink tequila straight, as a shot or in a good old margarita, the classic Tequila Sunrise cocktail, an enticing mixture of tequila, grenadine and orange juice is generally a crowd pleaser. Why? The sweetness of the grenadine cuts the “bite” of the tequila.

Inspired by a signature drink tasting we were providing for a client, our bartending team decided to present a fun twist on the traditional Tequila Sunrise. Our creation did not disappoint. We affectionately named it the “Spiced Sueño” (translated as the Spiced Dream).

Ingredients:

  • Tequila (we used Jose Cuervo Gold, but you can use any tequila you prefer)
  • Grenadine
  • Fresh-Squeezed Orange Juice
  • Clove-Infused Bitters
  • Fresh Bluberries

While it may sound like an odd combination of ingredients, don’t knock it until you try it.

Here are the steps to creating this delicious craft cocktail:

  1. Fill a glass with ice, and pour 1.5 oz of your favorite tequila over the ice.
  2. Next, add approximately 5 oz. fresh-squeezed orange juice (we used pulp-free but it is up to you which type of juice you prefer).
  3. Now, add a dash of grenadine (we recommend a small splash of grenadine to start. You can always add more if it is not sweet enough after you taste test it).
  4. Top with 4 drops of clove-infused bitters.

Without mixing the drink, it will naturally layer, with the grenadine sinking to the bottom of the glass. However, you will want to pour the drink into a martini shaker, and shake vigorously a few times to ensure the cocktail is cold and mixed thoroughly. Next, pour the cocktail back into the serving glass. Garnish with fresh blueberries. Take a sip. If you want more sweetness, add a little bit of grenadine and shake the cocktail again, to mix thoroughly.

This grown up version of a Tequila Sunrise combines ingredients that compliment the taste of tequila, without being overly sweet. The clove-infused bitters, mellow the “bite” of the tequila and leave a lingering taste that is flavorful but not overpowering. Enjoy!
